I wish I took more screenshots, but you just click on your service and sign in to create the bridge. The whole thing was streamlined and filled me with confidence. My 1Password came in very handy in the process. ![]() It was a snap to connect all of my services. ![]() Onboarding BeeperĪll I can say is that it was delightful. A gamble, but again, I was splurging on myself for quality of life. I decided to treat myself since the plethora of communication vehicles was just overwhelming. It’s actually quite expensive compared to any of the competitors. It’s in beta, but luckily a colleague introduced me to their CEO and I was able to try it out.īeeper is not free. I happened across something called Beeper which I wanted to try. Maybe setting up that Blackberry server was worse. It was the worst onboarding I ever experienced. Also, I checked out Element.io which built on the matrix platform for doing this kind of thing. I wasn’t filled with confidence so I decided not to try. There is another tool called Pidgin which seems to be an open source tool with plugins for each service. I looked at Franz (and their sister app AllInOne), but it did not support Signal. So I started looking for a new consolidation system. I am using the following to talk with friends, colleagues, mentees, and other folks:Įach one is a separate app, a separate sound, a separate notification. Unfortunately, Trillian stopped keeping up with the different protocols. It consolidated all of my different communication channels. Do you use specific ones for business and personal conversations? ![]() You can add Skype contacts to your team, and video and voice chat and screen sharing are coming soon. It’s growing in popularity and rapidly getting necessary features, too. Slack, in my opinion, definitely comes the closest. There are a lot out there, and I don’t know if there is a single one that does it all. The only reason I bother with Facebook Messenger, as I’m sure most of you do is that I have so many friends and family on Facebook, it’s almost necessary. However, to talk with friends and family, I move between Skype and Facebook messenger. When working with a team, a more robust team collaboration IM platform like what we use here now – Slack. I was even using AIM and Trillian at certain points. It’s a free Open Source solution that allows you to bring together all sorts of different platforms. I decided to go with the open source solution called Pidgin. However, after MSN became bloated and I realized my friends were on different platforms, I started looking for simpler cross-platform solutions. I also used it for my own communication, too. I started with MSN Live Messenger (later to become Skype) because my workplace required it for everyone. Rather than start with the early days of BBS or ICQ let’s just jump ahead a bit. A lot of it depended on where I was working or what my other friends are using at the time. My choice in IM and team collaboration clients have varied over the years. Whether it’s for business or staying in contact with friends and family, on your mobile device, PC, or Mac, we’re wondering which one(s) you’re using. ![]()
